Submission Policies

In order to ensure that material is protected, new users are put on a trial period and must either contact me or attend one meeting before they are allowed to view works in our "Current Stories" section on the website.

Short stories:
  1. To prevent high turn-over (which we've had in the past), members are asked to critique at least two stories before posting their own works for critique.
  2. Please send all submission requests to me (or the guest facilitator) before posting them to the website for review. This allows for the moderator to know who's presenting and form a good discussion based on the material up for review.
  3. To get to as many people as we can, please limit your submissions to once a quarter. If there is no other readily-available material, we can put yours on the list, but please do ask before submitting work if you already have within a three-month period.
  4. Because we try and get two stories in each meeting, please try and submit works under 10,000 words. This allows for a thorough discussion in the time-frame. Longer works are suitable for the novel group or submitted in parts (please ask first).
Poetry:
  1. Submissions should be made by the Friday before the scheduled workshop.
  2. Please limit submissions to two poems per session (though much shorter poems can warrant a few more submissions).
  3. When posting material to the website, please remember to put "Poetry" in the title, so it is distinguishable from the short stories and novels.
  4. If you submitted work for a particular date, and for some reason it wasn't critiqued on that date (for example, the meeting was canceled or it wasn't read), reset the review date for when you would like it considered again.
Novels:
  1. Members must review at least two other novels before the group will review theirs.
  2. The novel must be completed and polished to the point that it could be submitted "as is."
  3. The group will not review any novel longer than 150K words.
  4. Novels will be reviewed 1/3, 1/3 and 1/3 unless it's less than 75K words, then 1/2 and 1/2.
