The Milwaukee Writers Workshop is Milwaukee’s best option for critiques and writing education in both creative and professional writing. Founded in 2006 by J Boone Dryden, the Milwaukee Writers Workshop was created to provide a community for Milwaukee’s novice writing community but has grown to host a wide variety of workshops, seminars, conferences, and retreats.
Write, Critique, Support.
Write
We want to help you work on your projects. Critique sessions will offer writing prompts, discussions, and other ideas to help spark your writing. Our wide ranges of courses offer ways to hone your skills in everything from setting to scene writing, from grammar to publishing rights. See our listing of courses here.
Critique
Once your pieces are written, we hope to help you improve them through intense critique by our community of published and unpublished writers alike. Our roundtable-style of critique reads stories in advance, and then discusses the works in a panel-style of review in-person every other week. As well our writers have a proven track-record of utilizing the knowledge they gain from our workshop to go on and publish their work in a variety of online and print publications in short form, poetry, and novels.

Support
Most writers are writers because they enjoy the art. But there is a business side to the art, and our hope is that we can direct our writers in helping research their market, submit their work, and deal with the variety of issues that arise in dealing with the publishing industry. Our Director is knowledgeable in the technical aspects of the publishing industry, having spent a number of years as a slush reader, copy editor, managing editor, and creative director for a handful of publications both print and online.
